Wedding Bells

I attended the magnificent wedding of my eldest cousin and his new wife this weekend. Lovely venue, superb food and a great party - what more could you ask for?

The ceremony was held in an intimate room with the chairs decorated with purple satin bows. Then canapés of salmon and potato with apple sauce and sour cream were served with shots of Bloody Mary's outside in the garden whilst photos were being taken.

Then all 60 guests sat down for the toasts and wedding breakfast. Scattered on the table were pink and purple diamontes and each table was provided with a disposable camera and bubbles in a wedding cake-shaped bottle.

For starters, the choice was between duck orange pâté or butternut squash soup. I chose the pâté and it really was delicious. I'm not normally a big fan but it was very meaty in flavour and not too mushy as some pâtés can be. For main, the choice was baked chicken or salmon served with vegetable and parsley mash. I chose the salmon which was again delicious. The salmon was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. For dessert, we were offered pear and almond tart, crème brûlée and vanilla ice cream served in a wafer or chocolate mousse, chocolate ice cream served in a chocolate basket with white and milk chocolate twirl. We were finally served cream teas and coffee and after dinner mints. Completely scrumptious. All three dishes were stunning and the presentation was really impressive. I wish I'd taken photos but I was too busy eating it all to even remember.

The cake was also pretty awesome. Small cupcakes made of vanilla sponge decorated with chocolate or vanilla icing and glitter with a giant sponge cupcake on top iced with vanilla cream and topped with silver decorations. They also served blueberries with the cakes which was a nice touch.

After the meal, we had a bit of time before the evening 'do. The Bride and Groom had laid on a table of pick 'n' mix for guests to help themselves to. Again, I wish I'd taken a photo but it was just too exciting to think of rational things like that.

On to the evening and a DJ played a mix of old and new songs whilst more hors d'eouvres were served and a roulette table was there for guests to enjoy. We all stumbled to bed about 12.30am completely exhausted with stuffed bellies.

The Bride wore a white strapless gown with ruching on the skirt and beading and diamonte embroidery on the bodice. Their colour theme was deep purple, white and fuschia pink so the Groom wore a slate grey suit with purple embroidered waist coat, a white shirt, purple cravat and a fuschia Gerbera in his button whole. The Groomsmen wore similar but had white waistcoats instead. The Bridesmaids wore deep purple, chiffon, knee length dresses with satin waist bands and carried matching chiffon shawls. The bridal bouquet consisted of fuschia Gerberas and (what looked similar to) purple Lisianthus with long stems decorated with diamontes, wrapped with white ribbon. The Bridesmaids carried similar with just the fuschia Gerberas wrapped with purple satin ribbon instead.

I wore a grey French Connection dress which I altered from being full length to knee length, Christian Louboutin cream satin heels, vintage embroidered clutch, Swarovski earring, gifted bracelet and my Grandmother's diamond and emerald ring.

Make-up wise, I kept it simple with a slightly shimmery brown eye shadow, black liquid liner and bright red lips to off-set the soles of my shoes. I painted my nails a grey/silver colour (OPI Loyalty Islands Lilac) and painted a corner of my ring finger nails with silver glitter which you can't quite see in these photos.

My Mum wore a Versace dress, Zara heels, bracelet Burberry, clutch vintage, gold hoop earrings and watch.

It was really lovely to see all my family together again. Such a happy occasion and credit to the Bride especially for planning the day so meticulously. It really pulled off.
